The Ontario Bariatric Network (OBN) is a collaboration between twelve Ontario-based Bariatric Centres which provide comprehensive medical and surgical bariatric services across the province. OBN was looking to establish their next generation to better support its members and the public through new technologies, media and accessible design. In doing so, OBN partnered with Sandbox Software Solutions for a website design and development project.

Solution
Through several discovery sessions, Sandbox worked with the OBN team to create a responsive and unique design that would provide a fresh and modern feel to the website. New research pages were developed with the extensive use of accordions in order to strategically limit and organize content effectively. Various accessibility audit tools and manual inspections were conducted to ensure the website would meet upcoming accessibility standards. In order to make the website more useable for OBN partners, a new members' and referral portal were built. These portals provide different working groups across OBN with access to important research and documents behind the secure portal built in the Oasis Content Management System.
Outcome
The new website, which is easily managed through the Oasis Content Management System, better supports members through a secured portal. It also streamlines the referral process for referring physicians and makes available profiles for Bariatric Centres of Excellence as well as Regional Assessment and Treatment Centres. Patients are also provided with resources, tools and a Frequently Asked Questions tool to support them in understanding medical and surgical programs. The accessible, cross-browser and mobile friendly website effectively meets the goals setout for the project.
