In an effort to reinforce its vital role in the community, and to reflect the advanced level of care offered at the health centre, St. Joseph’s Health Centre Toronto underwent a rebranding exercise which included the redevelopment of their website.

  • Conduct research and discovery workshops with the dynamic range of stakeholders and audiences that utilize stjoestoronto.ca
  • Produce a visually appealing, user-friendly, responsive design
  • Provide intuitive navigation through strong site architecture and alignment of content with design

Solution

In partnership with design agency, Intent, Sandbox Software earned the privilege of working with the St. Joseph's team on the redesign and development of their website. Together, an in-depth strategy phase was undertaken which included stakeholder interviews, reviews of other health centre websites, an engaging advisory workshop with patients, staff, volunteers, students and community member participants, as well as an online community engagement survey. The results of these efforts established the foundation of the new St. Joseph's website.

Outcome

The new stjoestoronto.ca reflects the health centre’s place in the community and its commitment to quality and teaching. This site, developed in the WordPress content management system, features an advanced way-finding tool, unique navigation approaches, many community engagement tools, and provides valuable information to each of St. Joseph's audiences from patients to volunteers.

“Sandbox were always responsive, they understood the big picture and all the little details that go into a successful project. They provided great input and insights and listened to the client’s – and audiences’ – needs. They were a great project partner and I would work with them again in a heartbeat.”

— Todd Leach, Interim Communications Director

As part of our research and discovery workshops, Sandbox conducted stakeholder interviews to gain a strong understanding of what different audiences wanted to see in the new websites. These groups included physicians, volunteers, patient families and the health centre leadership.

> Website Discovery & Recommendations

By leveraging the WordPress content management system, staff are able to easily create and manage pages on the website. A robust tagging system allows for refined search capability and cross-population of content, particularly in the News section.

Sandbox also created a custom way-finding tool to help alleviate one of the most prominent problems stakeholders faced: directions to, and around, the hospital. This custom tool utilizes colour-coded floor plans, so visitors to the health centre can easily locate everything from parking to a specific wing, clinic or area of care.
