World Vision United States, part of the global World Vision International Partnership, is dedicated to improving child well-being in the developing world through child sponsorship and undertaking aid projects in communities. World Vision felt that employees of the organization throughout the world needed to improve skill sets pertaining to the acquisition of grant funding. Some of this funding comes from major government donors in the developed world.
Sandbox Software Solutions and learning partner Guiding Star Communications and Consulting were engaged to develop and implement Proposal Pro. This initiative intends to address the shared concern regarding the quality of grant proposals and the capacity of World Vision to create proposals in response to grant opportunities. The project delivered a document repository ( organized within the infrastructure of the corporate SharePoint intranet – WV Central ) and a robust learning program, housed within a custom web-based platform, suitable for grant acquisition staff throughout the world. The project included the identification and/or development of process-supportive tools, policies and procedure descriptions that equip proposal developers and contributors. An online learning program, deployed to a customized Learning Management System developed by Sandbox Software, includes a knowledge diagnostics tool, broad implementation of rapid e-learning media, an innovative online Learning Journal and 12 modules of content. The modular content is also available in conventional presentation media to support face-to-face learning encounters, bolstered by rich Facilitation Guides, and Module Summary Sheets/Job Aids. Finally, isolated learners are able to access rich e-learning content on USB stick by mail.
The pilot program phase of Proposal Pro involved more than 650 learners around the globe. Program satisfaction scores exceeded 80% across all learning elements, and a substantial audience were Proposal Pro certified. A second project phase is under way, a testament to success.
