About our partner
The Deafblind Network Ontario (DBNO) is a group of individuals, organizations and service providers who work together for the improvement of services for Ontarians who are deafblind. The DBNO is committed to ensuring that all Ontarians who are deafblind have equal access to high-quality Intervenor Services, a trained professional who acts as the “eyes” and “ears” of a person who is deafblind, providing specialized communications services and supports.
About the project
Access Intervenor Services (AIS) is a secure portal created for the Deafblind Network of Ontario and is designed to help people apply for intervenor services in Ontario.
Project drivers
Before Sandbox developed an online solution, applying for intervenor services was all done by mail and phone. Given the challenges faced by deafblind individuals in accessing online services, the solution needed to make the application process as simple as possible while also employing an array of accessibility tools.
What we accomplished
The new solution takes users through the application process step by step with many accessibility options along the way for aid. Among the accessibility features is a colour contrast change option which through a button can change the colour styles of the site to make everything legible for those with colour blindness. Each section of the application is provided with a video of a translator for American Sign Language or Langue des Signes Québécoise.
