Scarborough Health Network (SHN) is the largest healthcare network provider in Scarborough. The network includes three hospitals with programs and services designed to serve the needs of the Scarborough community.

Project drivers

The website redesign and redevelopment initiative by the Scarborough Health Network was driven by a number of factors. Although the previous website was functional, it required an updated design with a focus on imagery and storytelling, a refreshed information architecture with navigational tools to simplify the user experience, and content audits as the site did not accurately represent the scope of services available throughout SHN. Additionally, there was a strong desire to introduce new features including a Physicians Directory and a Referral Forms Directory.

What we accomplished

To ensure that Sandbox understood how to meet the many needs of several communities, Sandbox performed an extensive discovery process consulting with many members of the community and physicians. With all these communities, the site needed to have seamless navigation. This was done using a concierge tool and iconography for easily identifiable access to desired pages. Since the Scarborough Health Network site serves as a hub for healthcare services in Scarborough, the website needed an extremely robust physician directory and a referral forms directory. Sandbox supported SHN with this by building the tools internally within the website to make them public and visible on the site. The new website also required large-scale content migration from the previous site.
