Quinte Health is a dedicated family of four hospitals including Belleville General Hospital, North Hastings Hospital, Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital, and Trenton Memorial Hospital. Quinte Health is committed to “Creating Healthier Communities. Together.” With a team of 2,600 staff and physicians, they provide comprehensive care through emergency departments, operating rooms, rehabilitation services, ambulatory care clinics, and a range of diagnostic services. Their mission emphasizes compassion, connection, and a relentless commitment to their people and communities.

About the project

In September 2021, Quinte Health embarked on a re-imagining process, engaging with residents, patients, families, partners, and team members across diverse communities to co-create the future of their hospitals. This extensive engagement led to the launch of a new strategy in September 2022, focusing on putting people at the center of everything they do. To align with this refreshed strategy and brand identity, Quinte Health sought to revitalize their intranet, aiming to replace the existing internal file-sharing platform with a modern, user-friendly solution that embodies their new values and enhances internal communication and collaboration.

The primary drivers for this project included:

Enhanced User Experience: Develop an informative, modern intranet that is easy to navigate and read, with consistent functionality across all devices.
Intuitive Interface: Incorporate an intuitive interface and an easy-to-update content management system, allowing team members to adjust content, replace photos, or create pages without external support.
Brand Alignment: Ensure the intranet reflects Quinte Health’s refreshed brand identity, values, and commitment to compassion and humanity.
Improved Accessibility: Align with AODA and WCAG 2.0 requirements to ensure the intranet is accessible to all users.

What we accomplished

Starting with a project kickoff in October 2023, we collaborated closely with Quinte Health to understand their needs and aspirations. Through stakeholder interviews, card sorting activities to support information architecture, and discussions with the IT team, we developed a comprehensive solution overview. This included proposed wireframes, a site map, and recommendations for features. Built in Sandbox’s Oasis content management system, the new intranet was successfully launched in June 2024, providing a dynamic and user-friendly platform that not only aligns with Quinte Health’s refreshed brand and strategy, but also enhances internal communication, collaboration, and accessibility for all team members.

Marketplace (Buy and Sell): Provides a platform for staff to exchange items within the organization.
Acknowledgement Module: Allows team members to recognize and celebrate each other’s achievements by adding badges to user profiles.

Services provided

Analysis and Strategy: Conducted a thorough review of existing materials, facilitated interviews and discussions with stakeholders and the IT team, and performed card sorting activities to inform the information architecture.
User Experience Design: Developed intuitive wireframes and a site map to ensure a seamless user experience.
Implementation: Handled development, content migration, content entry, and Active Directory synchronization to ensure a smooth transition to the new platform.
Quality Assurance: Performed cross-browser and cross-device testing, conducted broken link checks, W3C audits, and accessibility technical audits to ensure a robust and compliant intranet.
Deployment: Managed the deployment to the hosting environment, ensuring a secure and efficient launch.
Content Management System Training: Provided training to designated Quinte Health team members, empowering them to manage and update the intranet independently.
Ongoing Support: Offer continued assistance through our maintenance program to ensure the intranet remains up-to-date and functional.
