About the project

Elgin County first partnered with Sandbox Software in 2020 to design, develop, and launch their corporate intranet. Following that successful collaboration, the County approached us again in December 2023 with an exciting new goal—redesigning and redeveloping a number of their websites, including their primary municipal website. With a strong focus on modernization, accessibility, and user engagement, our team worked closely with Elgin County to bring this vision to life.

In September 2024, we proudly launched Elgin County’s newly revamped municipal website: Visit the new Elgin County website. This new site provides a fresh, modern design while ensuring seamless navigation and accessibility for all users.

Project drivers

Elgin County’s decision to undertake this project was motivated by several key factors:

• Improved User Experience – The County wanted a more engaging and user-friendly platform that catered to diverse audiences, including residents, businesses, and tourists.
• Enhanced Accessibility – Compliance with WCAG 2.0 Level AA standards was a priority to ensure the site was accessible to all users.
• Modernization – A fresh, contemporary design was needed to better reflect the County’s identity and evolving digital landscape.
• Streamlined Navigation – A goal was to simplify the user journey, making it easier for visitors to find information quickly.
• Better Communication Tools – The County required a platform that allowed them to communicate efficiently with their community, particularly for urgent updates and announcements.

What we accomplished

Through our collaborative efforts, Sandbox Software delivered a dynamic and engaging municipal website that meets the County’s evolving needs. The website now serves as a centralized, easy-to-navigate hub for residents, visitors, and businesses to access important resources. The innovative concierge menu helps users quickly find relevant links, while the alert banner allows the County to provide timely updates.

With a focus on accessibility and usability, the new website fosters a stronger connection between Elgin County and its community, ensuring that information is easily available and engagement is maximized.
