About our partner

The Canadian Partnership Against Cancer (CPAC) is a national organization dedicated to accelerating action in support of the Canadian Strategy for Cancer Control. By working with partners across Canada, CPAC supports initiatives that enhance cancer prevention, care, and patient outcomes. CPAC plays a crucial role in implementing the Canadian Strategy for Cancer Control (CSCC) and ensuring that innovations in healthcare, including digital transformation, contribute to a more effective and equitable cancer care system.

About the projects

Over several years, Sandbox has collaborated with CPAC on multiple initiatives aimed at leveraging digital solutions to improve cancer care. Our projects have supported CPAC’s efforts to better understand the market of and potential of technologies like Virtual Care and electronic Patient Reported Outcomes (ePROs) to improve cancer outcomes. Sandbox was also engaged to support an evaluation of their public-facing website’s user experience, to design a reporting dashboard to support their Board in accessing and understanding key performance indicators and creating a template for their digital annual report.

These initiatives required different services including conducting environmental scans, stakeholder engagement, user experience design and evaluation, and strategic planning support.

Project drivers

Understanding Digital Innovations and their Applications in Cancer Control: CPAC recognized the need to explore emerging technologies such as Virtual Care technologies to improve early detection, equitable access, and system sustainability and required a vendor to assist in this exploration.
Supporting Virtual Care Expansion in Cancer Care: With a growing need for remote patient care, CPAC sought insights into available Virtual Care platforms and their effectiveness across different regions to better inform the cancer system about opportunities for virtual care expansion in cancer care.
Addressing COVID-19 Challenges: The pandemic highlighted the urgency of digital health solutions, including ePROs to collect timely patient-reported outcomes.
Website Usability & Optimization: CPAC aimed to validate their website improvements and ensure their digital presence effectively served stakeholders and the public.
Improving Board Access to Key Data and Insights: CPAC sought Sandbox’s support in designing a digital experience intended to provide their board of directors with multiple tiers of data to better inform their decision making process through an interactive Board Key Performance Indicator Dashboard developed in PowerBI.
Modernize their Annual Reporting: As part of digital transformation initiatives CPAC required support in designing and building their first online annual report. The solution needed to easily be reused for future reporting users.

What we accomplished

Throughout our partnership, Sandbox Software:

Conducted environmental scans on Virtual Care, AI, and ePROs to provide CPAC with comprehensive insights into the digital health landscape.
Published a report, prior to the COVID pandemic, on Virtual Care in Canada to support the cancer system in understanding how virtual care was being used in Canada, its impact on the overall sustainability of our healthcare system and its potential to improve cancer care.
Evaluated and provided strategic recommendations for the usability and effectiveness of CPAC’s website to optimize user experience and accessibility.
Assisted in strategic planning and user experience design for their Interactive Board Dashboard
Supported CPAC in planning, designing and launching their first Digital Annual Report and provided a template for future Digital Annual Reports.
